列車に乗り込むまで不安だった。乗れば乗るで、走るまでがまた不安。走りだすと、止りはしないか、止れば、ここで降ろされるのではないか。二年近くも待ちこがれていたものが、予告もなしに、ふいに与えられたのだから、何となく不安で、何かにつけて胸が騒いだ。
チョイナゴルスクを出発して15日目、日本海の群青が目にしみるナホトカに着いた。船の便が悪く、ここの収容所で三週間近くも過した。宿舎は旧海軍のテントで狭いところへぎっしり詰まって寝た。頭と足を入れ違いに、横向きで寝る苦しさに耐えかねて、テントの外へのがれて溝の中で寝たこともあった。

香月泰男【かづき やすお】
生没年 1911～1974（明治44年～昭和49年）
山口県大津郡三隅村（現・長門市三隅）に生まれた香月泰男は、東京美術学校で油彩画を学び、美術教員の傍ら国画会を中心に作品を発表しました。1967年、太平洋戦争への従軍と戦後のシベリア抑留の経験を描いた「シベリア・シリーズ」により、第一回日本芸術大賞を受賞。その作品は今日も多くの人々を惹きつけています。

〈Painter’s words〉
We were nervous before we got on the train, and nervous as we waited for it to pull away. Even when it started moving, we wondered if it would suddenly stop, if we would be forced to get off. For nearly two years we had been yearning for this moment and now, without warning, here we were actually living it. It was a time of joy and anticipation, but also of apprehension.
On the 15th day after leaving Chernogorsk we reached Nakhodka and saw the brilliant azure blue of the Japan Sea. There weren’t many ships leaving, so we had to wait nearly three more weeks at the Nakhodka camp. We were packed into tiny tents previously used by navy officers. We had to sleep head to toe on our sides, but I found that so uncomfortable that I sometimes abandoned the tent and slept outside in a ditch instead.

Kazuki Yasuo 1911 – 1974
Born in Misumi-mura (now Misumi, Nagato City) in Otsu-gun, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Studied oil painting at Tokyo School of Fine Arts, then taught fine art while producing works that were primarily exhibited at Kokugakai (National Painting Association). Kazuki was sent to fight in the Pacific War (WWII), then interned in Siberia after the war. This experience resulted in the Siberia Series, which won the inaugural Japan Art Grand Prize in 1967. This series is considered an important body of work that still resonates widely today.

《畫家的話》
直到坐上列車為止我都覺得不安。上車了就上車了，直到列車開動為止還是很不安。列車行駛以後，會不會停下來，如果停下來，會不會在這裏被放下。等待了將近兩年的事情，在毫無預告的情況下突然發生，總覺得不安，心裏亂亂的。
從喬伊納戈爾斯克出發的第15天，我們抵達了能看到群青色日本海的納霍德卡。由於船運不通暢，在這裏的戰俘營度過了將近三個星期。宿舍裏擠滿了破舊的海軍帳篷。頭對著腳交錯擁擠，有時我實在無法忍受側臥的痛苦，隻好逃到帳篷外面在溝裏睡覺。

香月泰男出生於山口縣大津郡三隅村（現長門市三隅），在東京美術學校學習油畫，在擔任美術教員的同時，主要在國畫會發表作品。1967年， “西伯利亞係列 “獲得了第一屆日本藝術大獎，描繪了香月在太平洋戰爭中服役以及戰後被關押在西伯利亞的經曆。那些作品至今也受很多人歡迎。
