“Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji” is a series of 46 landscape prints by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist, Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849). The series depicts Mount Fuji from different locations and in various seasons and weather conditions. “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji” is the most important work of Katsushika Hokusai, and one of the masterpieces of ukiyo-e woodblock history.
The rolling waves look like they are about to pounce on the oshiokuri-bune boats at any moment, in an atmosphere of severe tension. By contrast, Mt. Fuji stands motionless in the distance, with an air of perfect composure. The beauty of the blue is revealed with great impact in this print, which uses Prussian blue pigment imported from abroad.

This features a boat propelled by oars, not a sail, which was used in the Edo period.

Katsushika Hokusai (1760 – 1849)
Katsushika Hokusai made a number of ukiyo-e prints and paintings during the period from the 8th year of the Anei era (1779) to the 2nd year of the Kaei era (1849). His works include landscapes, such as the “Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji” series, and illustrations for printed books. He also made lots of nikuhitsu-ga ukiyo-e paintings.

《富嶽三十六景》描繪了從不同地點看到的富士山，是46幅為一套的係列作品。這是葛飾北齋的代表作，作為浮世繪版畫史上的名作而廣為人知。

葛飾北齋（Katsushika Hokusai）
生卒年 寶曆10年～嘉永2年(1760 ～ 1849)
活躍於安永8年(1779年)至嘉永2年(1849年)。創作了以“富嶽三十六景”為代表的風景畫、版畫插圖等。另外，也有很多毛筆畫作品。

「후가쿠36경(富嶽三十六景:후가쿠산쥬록케이)」은 여러 장소에서 보이는 후지산을 그린 총 46장의 시리즈 작품입니다. 작가 가츠시카 호쿠사이의 대표작이며, 우키요에 판화 사상 최고의 명작으로 꼽힙니다.
항해중인 압송선을 집어삼킬 듯 세차게 치는 파도에, 화폭 가득 긴장감이 맴돕니다. 반면 멀리 보이는 후지산은 그저 평화로워 보이기만 합니다. 외국에서 들여온 청색 안료인 프러시안 블루(베를린 블로)를 사용하여 파란색의 매력을 가감없이 발휘한 작품입니다.

가츠시카 호쿠사이

안에이8년(1779)부터 가에이2년(1849)에 걸쳐 활약했습니다. 『후가쿠36경』으로 대표되는 풍경화, 판각본의 삽화 등의 작업을 했습니다. 더하여 많은 육필화 수작을 남겼습니다.
