It looks like a sudden shower started during the evening. In the passageway, a woman is hurriedly closing the shutters to prevent the rain from being driven into the room. A child, looking frightened of the thunder, is holding onto the woman’s obi (sash) as she is putting up a mosquito net. Under the mosquito net, a girl who is bothered by the sound of thunder is covering her ears with her hands. Please especially note the depiction of the lightning, energetically zigzagging into the room.

Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III) (1786 – 1864)
Utagawa Kunisada was an ukiyo-e artist who was active during the period from the 4th year of the Bunka era (1807) to the 1st year of the Genji era (1864). He was a talented artist of bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women) and yakusha-e (portraits of kabuki actors) and gained great popularity. He produced the largest number of ukiyo-e works among the ukiyo-e artists in the Edo period – over 10,000 according to one estimate.

突然下起了陣雨。走廊上，為了防止雨水落入房間，一位女性急忙架起防雨窗。孩子似乎害怕打雷，抓著掛蚊帳女性的衣帶。蚊帳裏的少女也被雷聲嚇得捂住耳朵。值得一看的是，閃電一股勁地射入室內的刻畫部分。

歌川國貞（Utagawa Kunisada）(第三代豐國)（Sandaitoyokuni）
生卒年 天明6年～元治元年(1786 ～ 1864)
活躍於文化4年(1807年)至元治元年(1864年)。擅長美人畫以及演員畫，擁有很高的人氣。浮世繪師中作畫量最大的畫師，據說作品超過了一萬幅。

갑자기 소나기가 내리기 시작한 모양입니다. 복도에는 비가 방 안으로 들이치지 않도록 서둘러 덧문을 닫는 여성이 있습니다. 아이는 천둥 번개에 놀란 듯, 모기장을 치는 여성의 허리끈을 부여잡고 있습니다. 모기장 안에도 소녀 한명이 천둥 소리에 놀라 귀를 막고 있네요. 번개가 기세 좋게 방안으로 들어오는 모습을 표현한 것도 인상적입니다.

우타가와 쿠니사다(산다이 토요쿠니)

분카4년(1807)부터 겐지 원년(1864)에 걸쳐 활약했습니다. 미인화나 배우 초상화가 특기였고, 이 것으로 많은 인기를 얻었습니다. 우키요에 작가들 중에서도 작화 량이 가장 많은 작가로, 제작한 작품이 무려 약 1만점이 넘는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
